Privacy policy
We collect the least we can. This page says exactly what that is, why we hold it, and how to get it back or have it deleted.

Who we are
Alignel is an AI consulting firm. This policy covers alignel.com and the enquiries that come through it. Client data is covered by the contract we sign with that client, which takes precedence over this page.
The data controller is Alignel, [registered address]. Reach us at admin@alignel.com.
What this site collects
The only personal data this website asks for is what you type into the contact form: your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give one, and your message. Nothing else on the site collects data about you.
The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ad pixels or trackers from other companies.
What our host records
The site runs on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel logs the technical details of each request: IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time. Vercel keeps those logs for a short period to serve the site and protect it from abuse, and we do not use them to profile you. Vercel acts as our processor, and its own privacy notice covers what it does with the data.
Why we use it, and on what basis
We use what you send through the contact form to reply to you and, if the conversation goes further, to scope the work you asked about. That is the only thing we use it for.
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, our lawful basis is legitimate interest, since you contacted us about our services and expect an answer. If you become a client, it is performance of a contract. For server logs the basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
Who else sees it
Your message goes to the engineers who would handle the enquiry. Nobody else at Alignel reads it, and outside Alignel only the vendors that run our email and hosting handle it, as part of delivering their service. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We delete enquiries that go nowhere within 24 months. Correspondence with clients we keep for the life of the engagement, and afterwards for as long as our contract and tax records require.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to do any of the following:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct it if it is wrong
- Delete it
- Restrict or object to how we use it
- Receive it in a portable format
Email admin@alignel.com and we will answer within one month. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Security
Only the people who need an enquiry can open it, behind the access controls of the systems we use. No system is perfect. If a breach affects your data and puts you at real risk, we will tell you and the relevant regulator within the deadlines the law sets.
International transfers
Our hosting and email vendors may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens to data protected by the UK or EU GDPR, the transfer relies on the standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Children
This site is aimed at businesses. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page, and summarise anything material here for at least 30 days.
